Tucked into the remote Osa Peninsula in southern Costa Rica, Corcovado National Park is a true sanctuary for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Often called the crown jewel of the country’s national park system, Corcovado protects the largest remaining stretch of lowland tropical rainforest on the Pacific coast of the Americas. With over a dozen distinct ecosystems—including coastal mangroves, cloud forests, and swamps—this area supports an astonishing level of biodiversity, estimated to contain nearly 2.5% of all species on Earth.
During your visit, you may cross paths with some of Costa Rica’s most iconic and elusive wildlife: the endangered Baird’s tapir, the iconic two-toed sloth, troops of squirrel monkeys swinging through the canopy, colorful scarlet macaws screeching overhead, and the secretive white-lipped peccary moving through the undergrowth. Jaguars, pumas, and harpy eagles also call this wild haven home, though they are much harder to spot.
Corcovado is accessible through several ranger stations—La Leona, Sirena, San Pedrillo, Los Patos, and Dos Brazos de Río Tigre—each offering a different window into the park’s diverse environments. Whether you’re hiking in for a day or embarking on a multi-day adventure with an overnight stay at Sirena Station, every visit offers a chance to experience nature at its most raw and untamed.
